Description:

In this special section on social engagement in older people, the studies focus on social participation. This Introduction reviews research which has examined the relationship between this aspect of social engagement and health. This includes research that looked at the impact of social leisure activities (i.e. attending classes/lectures, and attending spectator events, e.g. movies, plays, sports events); and passive and relatively solitary leisure (i.e. watching television, listening to the radio, reading).
